SYDNEY -- Australian total general government final consumption expenditure rose 0.8% in chain volume terms in the second quarter of 2009 from the first quarter, the Australian Bureau of Statistics Tuesday.
Total public gross fixed capital formation also rose 0.8% in chain volume terms in the second quarter from the previous quarter, the bureau said.
Total general government final consumption in current price terms rose 1.4% in the second quarter from the previous quarter.
Total public gross fixed capital formation in current price terms fell 0.2% over the quarter.
Government spending and investment make up around 25% of Australia's gross domestic product. First quarter GDP data are due 0130 GMT Wednesday.
