SYDNEY -- Australia's unemployment rate rose to a seasonally adjusted 5.8% in October from 5.7% in September. The number of employed rose 24,500, the Australian Bureau of Statistics said Thursday.
Economists on average had expected an unemployment rate of 5.8% in October, with the number of employed falling 10,000.
The number of people in full-time work rose 2,900 to 7.59 million in October, while the number of people in part-time work rose 21,500 to 3.24 million, from 3.22 million in September.
The bureau said its seasonally adjusted workforce participation rate, or the proportion of working-age persons at work or actively seeking work, remained at 65.2% in October.
