FRANKFURT -- German consumer prices fell in July, according to final figures from the Federal Statistics Office Tuesday, but less so than the preliminary figures showed.
Consumer prices in Europe's largest economy were unchanged on month in July and fell by 0.5% on year, the statistics office said, revising its preliminary reading of a 0.1% fall on month and a 0.6% fall on year.
Economists' forecast in a Dow Jones Newswires survey matched the preliminary figure.
The statistics office said the annual CPI figure is the lowest since Germany's reunification in 1990, and added that a lower figure was registered in spring 1987 in the former West Germany.
The negative annual figure was mainly due to a strong fall in energy and food prices, the statistics office said.
